This isn't a perfect system as it's based on a player's 2017 performance but 2018 salary. However, it does do a pretty good job of painting the most overpaid and underpaid players. Scale and non-scale players have a different formula applied to them based on ESPN's player rater. Ex. A 4.00 player on the scale will be paid less than one not on the scale. No surprise that all of these players were given contracts in free agency.
