Every Friday of the 2018 year OakInc will be posting the ODC Week in review, summarizing any moves made and notable chat topics for that week.
Trades: There were a lot of bad ones this week.
The week started with the teams it ended last week with. After the Brewers cleared cap by moving Daniel Murphy and Troy Tulowitzki(OTB), the Brewers decided to use some of that new found cap on Tim Beckham, for the steep price of 20M. Not gonna lie I sorta hate this deal, 20M is a lot for a guy who was known as a huge bust before having a nice second half for the Orioles last season.
Then our BLOCKBUSTER OF THE WEEK happened between Forbz and Noah, with TB trading away Julio Teheran and Javier Baez for Max Scherzer. This was probably the dumbest trade of the week by any team, I wouldn't of traded 3 years of teheran straight up for 1 year of Scherzer, but too throw in a really good 2B in Javier Baez is laughable to me.
I thought to myself there's no way a worse trade gets made this week, but I was wrong, as on Sunday The Dodgers traded 2016 2nd round pick SP Logan Shore (whom hasn't been awful), 3M, and the 5th pick of the 2nd round of the upcoming draft for fucking Miles Mikolas...What the Fuck. The Dodgers haven't been great so far, but this trade actually makes me think he knows nothing about baseball. Why would you give up that much for a 30 year old who hasn't even been that good in Japan the last 3 years and has a very small chance of making the Cardinals deep rotation. Just an absolutely stupid fucking trade.
After that there were a bunch of prospect and Rule V trades, Patty and Wood made a trade helping both sides as Minnesota traded away Wilson Ramos's large contract for Cesar Hernandez, I think Wood ends up winning this trade because I see a big bounce back year from Ramos, but the deal makes sense for both sides.
A 3-way trade (Sanders Moans) between Atlanta/St Louis/Cleveland saw nothing of value really move except for Randal Grichuk move to Atlanta. It was another move I liked for Wood and I didn't really understand this one from Psych, but Grichuk isn't good enough to make me absolutely hate the deal.
OakInc was quiet this week essentially flipping Will Harris into Travis D'arnaud and finally getting rid of Brent Suter for Josh Tomlin.
In a fairly big move Cubs traded Gerrit Cole for a solid prospect package. There's a small chance Cole signs an extension, but in all likelihood KC still wins this trade is Cole can be a top 40 SP, which I think he will be.
Other than that not a ton happened this week, The Mariners got their RF in Nick Markakis and the Mets acquired Ordisimer Despaigne for cheap.
MAXING OF THE WEEK: Another not great week for Maxings, but we got a solid one from Kevin in the Travis D'Aurnaud deal "I don’t need darnaud and he will get hurt again. I will take my shot with zimmer who is just as injury prone and Perez who should be a solid BP arm."
TEAM OF THE WEEK: It's Padres, they were the team that won the two trades where I thought the team they traded with got absolutely murdered. Acquiring an early 2nd round pick, Logan Shore, 3 years of Julio Teheran, 2 years of Javier Baez, and 3M in cap for 1 year of Max Scherzer and Miles Mikolas is a pretty great week.
Honorable Mention: Braves, D-Backs
WORST TEAM OF THE WEEK: Dodgers, That Mikolas trade is so bad and just lacking in any knowledge there's no team that could have had a worse week.
Honorable Mention: Rays
CHAT TOPIC OF THE WEEK: For some reason Justin being Asshole Justin decided to let everyone know he won't call people Mr. and that was the pertaining topic of the week.
Honorable Mention: Various other drafts. 1 day of a New Rockies. Arguments for a New Rockies (#NATE/ALEX4ROX), Greg's awful last trade
BEEF OF THE WEEK: Greg is starting off hot, as him and Patty repeatedly got into it over over Psych's last trade before leaving. Psych can say he's fucking around and not actually mad all he wants, but it seems like moving to the AL has turned him into more of an AL Bryan.
Honorable Mention: Twins-Nats, White-Sox-Giants.
