Every Friday of the 2018 year OakInc will be posting the ODC Week in review, summarizing any moves made and notable chat topics for that week.
Trades: This week kinda sucked.
The first trade of the week was Mike getting a catcher trading a 2nd round pick and a 7th round pick for Russell Martin and a 5th round pick. Makes sense for both sides, good job by John getting a 2nd round pick for cap.
Bryan traded Jeremy Hellickson and Eduardo Escobar to me for Alcedes Escobar and 3M. Eduardo was solid last year, meanwhile Alcedes should be fine as a back-up SS.
Cleveland got 20M for Julio Urias from SD which caused one of the dumbest arguments in chat because for some reason bryan bidded on Asdrubal Cabrera, but didn't want him, so after Noah's trade his Cabrera bid was deemed invalid and caused Cabrera to be won by Bryan. Bryan then bitched for 12 hours about it and then traded him to Boston for a 4th round pick who then traded him to Houston for 3 prospect, another really solid move by Elijah, getting an underrated SS very cheaply.
Forbz's bad offseason continued by being forced to trade Yasmany Tomas and Patrik Corbin for 11M in cap. He then used the cap he saved in that trade to give Addison Reed 5M a year.
Jeff got 8M for Ben Zobrist from Nick in a confusing move.
BLOCKBUSTER OF THE WEEK: The only big trade this week in which Jack traded away Hanley Ramirez, Tyler Clippard, and DiDi Gregorious for Ryan Braun. Ryan Braun is by far the best player in this trade and solidifies an outfield of Braun, Conforto, Betts which might be the best in this league. Still a lot of holes on that team, but definitely a move worth making if you're going all in.
Like 75% of the trades this week were a bad player being moved for like a 6th round pick or 0.5-2.5M, so it wasn't a great week for things to talk about.
MAXING OF THE WEEK: Justin becomes our first 2 time 2 time winner. In one of many useless trades this week, Justin traded Randall Delgado for Ernesto Martinez. "Martinez has got awesome power and Delgado isn't my type of RP. Too little deception, relies on three 55 pitches." Yeah when there's a bunch of boring trades a 4/10 maxing is gonna win the week. STANDINGS: Justin-2 Jeff-1 Kevin-1
FREE AGENT GRADES: RP this week so most of these will be pretty boring. The Machado and Mous signings were both A signings IMO.
Andrew Miller: 2 year 18M a year (WAS) Andrew Miller is great, but he's not helping you in anything other than Holds and maybe K's due to the lack of IP he's giving you. 18M a year is crazy.
Grade: D-
Wade Davis: 2 years 9M a year (WAS) Again Wade Davis is very good, but there were better closers that don't have to pitch half their games at Coors available. I still think Davis helps Bryan and the years aren't crazy, but he could've saved some money by not starting with a crazy bid.
Grade: C-
Addison Reed: 5 years 4M a year (TB) 5 years for a holds reliever with a career 3.4 ERA 3.18 FiP is crazy.
Grade: D
Ryan Madson: 3 years 1.6M a year (LAD) This is what an elite level holds reliever should get, the first move in a while I've really liked from Jake.
Grade: A
Huston Street: 2 years 500K (LAD) A 34 year old that's thrown 26.1 IP the last two years with a 5.47 ERA in that time isn't gonna get signed in real life and shouldn't be signed in here.
Grade: F
Jim Johnson: 1 year 500K (LAD) Why waste money on these washed relievers when every team in here is selling better service time relievers at an equal price.
Grade: D-
Joakim Soria: 3 years 2.2M (OAK) If he's the White Sox closer this signing is good, if he's not it's bad. I obviously think he will be.
Grade: C+
Fernando Rodney: 3 years 2.5M (BAL) The exact same thing I said above applies here.
Grade: C+
Neftali Feliz: 1 year 500K (DET) There's so many better things I could be doing right now.
Grade: D
Jerry Blevins: 3 years 1.2M a year (DET) Maybe I'll take an online class or something.
Grade: C-
Koji Uehara: 1 years 0.5M (ARZ) There's a ton of good books on the internet
Grade: B
Brad Ziegler: 1 years 1.8M (LAD) ondeckcircle.proboards.com/thread/11696/brad-ziegler-rp This bidding war killed my family and caused a famine.
Grade: F
Daniel Hudson: 2 years 600K a year (OAK) I wonder if I could be a reliever
Grade: C
Brad Hand: 5 years 6.8M a year (SF) More like Bad Hand. Good pitcher, bad contract for someone who will likely be flipped and used as a set-up man for a better team.
Grade:D-
Joe Smith, Brad Brach, Kelvin Herrera, Bryan Shaw, and Pedro Strop are all getting entirely too much money.
Grade: IDC anywhere from C- to D-
TEAM/OWNER OF THE WEEK: Psych had a very good week. In his big moves he flipped Julio Urias for Patrick Corbin, Yasmany Tomas, and 9M.
HM: Jeff, Jack
STANDINGS: Psych-1 Elijah-1 Noah-1 Mike-1
WORST TEAM/OWNER OF THE WEEK: Forbz. That Tomas and Corbin trade was bad and the Reed signing was worse.
HM: Jake, Paul
STANDINGS: Forbz-1 Jake-1 Becks (RIP)-1 Matt-1
Beef of the week: I've read enough Bryan/Patty fighting to last me 10492 lifetimes, but this week was some of the dumbest. Bryan of all people after putting a picture of Forbz's ex fat girl in the past and putting a pic of Patty in chat and calling him ugly (hi new owner who's confused reading this) then Bryan complained about personal attacks in one of the all time hypocritical bitch boy moves ever. Bryan/Patty are now our first defending duo in beef of the week.
HM: Elijah-Bryan Elijah-Brandon
Standings: Psych-Slaw-1 Psych-Patty-1 Psych-Bryan-2
