Every Friday of the 2018 year OakInc will be posting the ODC Week in review, summarizing any moves made and notable chat topics for that week.
TRADES: They happened this week, some good ones too.
Angels made an interesting move Kevin Maitan for Yanio Perez and Nolan Jones. Maitan is far away, but his most likely outcome is an everyday SS, although he dropped from #32 to #87 in the MLB.com top 100 ranking. Yanio Perez is a 21 year old OF prospect, coming off a great season at A-level ball before getting the call to high-a and struggling a bit. Nolan Jones's arm is unbelievable, and helps his third base profile. There is some power, however it’s not necessarily projectable, however he is definitely going to hit for average with good on-base numbers. Overall, he looks like a No.76 hitter who can slash a healthy .280/.370/.420 line with about 15-20 bombs a season.
After trading Salvador Perez for Maikel Franco and Chris Davis, Bryan flipped Franco to Forbz for cap and Chris Davis to Jack for a 7th, in a move I don't like for either team, but like it more for Jack.
Justin signed and traded Garrett Richards and 10M for 4 prospects. Richards is a top 30 SP when healthy, but the when healthy hasn't been so since 2015. Two of the prospects Justin acquired in OF Drew Waters and SP Michael Mercado were 2017 draft picks coming off solid-to-great debut seasons.
Wood traded for 7 picks probably worth 4M. If he had given up 6M I would've been like wow good deal by Max. Woody boy gave up 11M for those picks. There's no excuse for this trade. I don't understand the rationale of accept, "adding picks for 2019" being enough. I don't fucking care that Wood's been in the league for a few years, there's no reason to vote on trades if we're just going to let trades like that pass. It's the worst deal I've seen in here. If it's the middle of the season when picks are most valuable and cash isn't Wood could've given up less money for this trade. Elijah can bitch and moan about FA's all he wants and says it hurts the league when illegal bids are made, but I'd argue trades like this with inactive owners who can't be bothered to get on chat every once in a while and have made 2 trades in the last 3 months with tons of holes and cap to fill those holes with, but instead wastes it on picks, is far more harmful to the league. There's no excuse for this trade to be made and there's no excuse for it to be passed. There's a legitimate argument that could be made for collusion in a trade like this, when Wood hasn't been on in weeks, doesn't respond to PM's and won't fix his team, and then comes back to make one of the worst trades in here possible.
Astros signed and traded JD Martinez for Edwin Diaz and Gio Gonzalez in a great trade for Paul. JD Martinez was a top 5 outfielder last season, and depending where he signs could repeat that this season. Also good value for elijah getting two solid P's for the money used on JD, although I'd argue JD helps his team more.
BLOCKBUSTER OF THE WEEK: Bum is finally off the block. Forbz moved MadBum and Corey Dickerson for Greg Bird, Edwin Diaz, and 3 prospects. I like this move a lot for Forbz. Dickerson is a huge regression candidate after a hot first half, Dickerson had just a .690 OPS in the second half, and Bum's velocity fell off a cliff after coming back from injury. Diaz projects as a very good closer if he can keep his walks down, and Greg Bird is the 1B in a great lineup in a great park, I wouldn't compare him to Jose Abreu, but I could see him putting up #'s similar to Mark Reynolds last season (.267 30 HRs 97 RBIs)
MAXING OF THE WEEK: This isn't as much of a Maxing towards the other person in the trade as it is about just how fucking insufferable Max has been this week "I accept. German is solid but I have enough relievers now, he'd just rot on my 40-man and I rather use the cash for something else" mainly the he'd just rot on my loaded filthy nasty roster is the type of thing Max hasn't shut the fuck up about coming off a season with the 3rd worst record in the NL.
STANDINGS: Justin-2 Jeff-1 Kevin-1 Kory-1 Max-1
TEAM/OWNER OF THE WEEK: I really like JD Martinez at that contract, so Paulie wins, but there were some solid SP signings that I'll get into when I do full FA grades team-by-team next week. STANDINGS: Noah-2 Psych-1 Elijah-1 Mike-1
Paul-1
HM: Forbz, Elijah
WORST TEAM/OWNER OF THE WEEK: Fuck you wood. STANDINGS:Paul-1 Forbz-1 Jake-1 Becks (RIP)-1 Matt-1 Wood-1
BEEF OF THE WEEK: Elijah/Brandon. Elijah essentially saying Brandon doesn't do enough for the league because Jordan Zimmermann got signed cheap off an illegal bid after making that trade with Wood is some of the most hypocritical bullshit white knighting i've ever seen, Brandon didn't really argue with Elijah's garbage logic, but Bryan and Patty were more corgile than they've been in past weeks.
STANDINGS: Psych-Slaw-1 Psych-Patty-1 Patty-Bryan-2 JT-Brandon-1 Brandon-Elijah-1
Have a good weekend to everyone except wood.
