WEEK 2 REVIEWS:
AL SCORES:
The Score: Baltimore Orioles (-11.5) defeat Atlanta Braves 8-4-2
After a disaster week 1 for Wood he rebounds to a close loss to the best team in the league. Neither team getting a hold is surprising and 2 runs and 2 RBIs were the difference between 8-4-2 and a 6-6-2 tie.
Matchup MVP: Khris Davis 9/23 5 runs 4 HR 7 RBI .391 AVG 391 OBP .957 SLG
The Score: Minnesota Twins (+2.5) defeat Chicago White Sox 13-1
Goddamn what a big week for Patty. The two frontrunners from the AL Central faced off and Patty dicked Mike, Patty dicked Mike. Injuries to Josh Donaldson early in the week combined with a 6-37 from Encarnacion and Freeman certainly didn't help Michael, but the only category that was particularly close was QS.
Matchup MVP: Ivan Nova 13.2 IP 15 K 3.95 ERA 0.951 WHIP 2-0 2 QS
The Score: Detroit Tigers (-5) defeat Cleveland Indians 8-3-3
Detroit is off to a fines start with solid back-to-back wins against the two worst teams in his division. This one was likely frustrating for Alex as he could've easily had a double digit week, but in 166 AB's his team managed just 3 HR 11 RBI and a putrid .145/.214/.217 slash line, Psych matched those HR and RBI numbers and going into sunday all alex needed was 1 HR or RBI to take both cats, but unfortunately his lineup went 0-20 on sunday. Jaime Garcia not getting a start and therefore not getting Psych to the minimum for pitching ratios was the difference between this going 6-5-3.
Matchup MVP: Dylan Bundy 12.2 IP 1 QS
The Score: Houston Astros (-3) defeat Texas Rangers 8-4-2
For the second straight week Bills hitting ratios let him down, but his ERA and WHIP were dominant and kept it close against a more talented Astros team.
Matchup MVP: Scooter Gennett 10/29 3 RBI 1 SB .345 AVG .367 OBP .414
SLG
The Score: Oakland Athletics (-14) defeat Los Angeles Angels 13-0-1
How the fuck do Sean Doolittle, Matt Albers, and Joakim Soria combine for 0 saves
Matchup MVP: Ian Kinsler 4/9 3 runs 1 HR 2 RBI 2 SB
The Score: Tampa Bay Rays (-14) defeat Boston Red Sox 13-0-1
No quality starts were the only tie (and forbz thinks his rotation is better lmaoooooooooooooo)
Matchup MVP: Francisco Cervelli 9/18 2 runs 2 HR 8 RBI
The Score: Kansas City Royals (-1) defeat Seattle Mariners 7-4-3
After a quiet week 1 from his bats, guys like Aaron Judge and Jose Ramirez started to heat up and led to a big win after a bad week against Detroit. Mariners slick might stink.
Matchup MVP: Aaron Judge 7/15 5 runs 1 HR 2 RBI 1 SB .467 AVG .556 OBP .733 SLG
The Score: New York Yankees (-2) defeat Toronto Blue Jays 7-5-2
Neither of these teams did anything interesting and I don't have anything to add other than that like Luis Castillo, the AL East stinks out loud.
Matchup MVP: Scott Kingery 8/26 5 Runs 2 HR 11 RBI .692 SLG
NL SCORES:
The Score: Chicago Cubs(-2)tie Cincinnati Reds 6-6-2
The Reds pitching stunk and the Cubs hitting stunk and that leads to a 6-6-2 tie between two of the top teams in the best division in this league. Losing a full series of Miguel Sano probably took 1 or 2 categories from Cubs.
Matchup MVP: Mike Trout 8/23 3 HR 6 RBI
The Score: Arizona Diamondbacks (-5.5)defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-5-2
Arizona was up 13-1 late in the week and then Diamondbacks sorta choked combined with bad luck, 5 quality starts and 66 IP to not get a single win is purely bad luck, but then again Diamondbacks only won by one SB and one run. Maybe the Dodgers don't suck.
Matchup MVP: Todd Frazier 7/15 3 runs 2 HR 4 RBI
The Score: New York Mets (-9.5) defeat Miami Marlins 9-4-1
If Kevin doesn't start Chris Tillman this week is 6-7-1 and I'd be all in on Marlins NL East champions, but alas.
Matchup MVP: Chris Stratton 7 IP 4 K 1 QS 1-0 0.00 ERA 0.571 WHIP
The Score: Milwaukee Brewers (+9.5) defeats Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6-1
The reigning champs lose their first game of the year as Nick pulls out an absolutely huge win after getting dominated by St.Louis week 1. The power bats big time came alive with 12 HR 41 RBI and a .512 SLG% in 168 AB's. If he had gotten a bit of help from his pitching staff it could've been an even bigger win, but holds were the only pitching category Nick took. Paul Goldschmidt coming alive in a huge fashion was the catalyst to this win. By far the biggest upset win of the young season.
Matchup MVP: Paul Goldschmidt 10/24 8 runs 4 HR 8 RBI .417 AVG .462 OBP 1.042 SLG
The Score: St. Louis Cardinals (-13.5) defeats Colorado Rockies 13-0-1
The lack of closer hurt Matt, and Jake Arrieta coming thru with his teams lone quality start and win was huge in a week against the worst owner in here.
Matchup MVP: Jake Arrieta 1 QS, 1-0
The Score:Washington Nationals (-14) defeat Philadelphia Phillies 13-1
Trevor Richards throwing 7 shutout innings saved this one from being a full sweep for Bryan. Mike Moustakas had a huge week and would've won all the hitting categories by himself.
Matchup MVP: Yoshihisa Hirano 1 hold.
The Score: San Diego Padres (+1) defeat San Francisco Giants 7-6-1
In facing the two best teams other than his own in the NL West Paul comes out at even .500 and sets himself up for some easier competition coming up. The Padres rotation was once again very good, and it was very close in most of the categories other than saves and steals and wins.
WEEK 3 PREVIEWS:
AL:
Baltimore Orioles (21-5-2) Vs. Boston Red Sox (0-27-1)
The Line: Orioles-14
The only way Jeff doesn't take every category is if Tzu-Wei Lin and Adeiny Hechavarria get to 40 AB's combined and by some miraculous miracle have good ratios.
Kansas City Royals (10-13-5) Vs. Toronto Blue Jays (12-14-2)
The Line: Royals-5.5
Royals are still due some progression to the mean with some of their bats and Shohei Ohtani can only get you so far. Sanders team sucks and should be losing Gerardo Parra at some point this week to his 4 game suspension.
Los Angeles Angels (0-26-2) Vs. Seattle Mariners (17-7-4)
The Line: Mariners-13
Mariners play the Angels for the second time in three weeks and look to take the division lead back (S/O OAKINC) with a matchup against a barren Angels team. If Hoskins keeps stealing bases it could be interesting.
Minnesota Twins (27-1) Vs. Houston Astros (10-16-1)
The Line: Twins-3.5
Twins will look to continue their hot start as they currently have the best record in here. For Elijah to pick up a win he's going to need his aces Keuchel and Archer to get out of their early season slumps. Bregman showed signs of breaking out last week and doing the same this week could help Elijah pick up his second straight win against a very good team. For Patty he needs his middle tier SPs like Ivan Nova and Junior Guerra to continue pitching well and Jensen and Colome to get out of their early seasons slumps and pick up saves against a very solid Astros bullpen.
New York Yankees (8-18-2) Vs. Miami Marlins (16-9-3)
The Line: Yankees-5.5
The Marlins have put together solid showings in back-to-back weeks to start the season, but I think they cool off a bit against a Yankees team that's coming off a close win against Toronto. If Luis Castillo can start pitching well in a 2 start week he could do enough by himself to pick up a few categories against Kevin's lowkey solid rotation.
Oakland Athletics (18-8-2) Vs. Chicago White Sox (13-15)
The Line: White Sox-2.5
No Josh Donaldson may hurt Michael a bit in this matchup against your current American League West leaders, but two starts of Severino and Nola, with Stanton getting a chance to kill his old team sets Michael up for a rebound week after getting dominated by Patty last week.
Tampa Bay Rays (20-7-1) Vs. Cleveland Indians (9-15-4)
The Line: Rays-4.5
Indians, Red Sox, Blue Jays. Damn Forbz got a nice early season schedule.
New York Mets (21-6-1) Vs. Detroit Tigers (17-6-5)
The Line: Tigers-1
These teams are pretty close in talent. After a disaster hitting week for Alex that still resulted in an 8-3-3 win if his guys like Choo, Brinson, and especially Springer can heat up than the Tigers could pick up a third straight win to start the season.
NL:
Arizona Diamondbacks (13-12-3) Vs. Chicago Cubs (11-15-2)
The Line: Cubs-3
The entire Cubs lineup is due to breakout and I think he picks up a fairly easy win against a Diamondbacks team coming off a frustratingly close win against a bad Dodgers team.
Atlanta Braves (6-20-2) Vs. Washington Nationals (17-11)
The Line: Nationals-6
I'd be surprised if Wood took any pitching categories. The lineup will have to look to take steals and ratios to keep this one close.
Cincinnati Reds (20-6-2) Vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8-18-2)
The Line: Reds-3.5
Cody hasn't really managed his lineup in a daily sense and Nick did so very well last week to get himself a win against Pittsburgh. If he can do the same this week I wouldn't be surprised if his hitting kept it close, although the pitching staff will have to hope to quantity its way to some categories against Cody's solid rotation.
San Diego Padres (17-10-1) Vs. Colorado Rockies (0-27-1)
The Line: Padres-14
#NateForRockies
Los Angeles Dodgers (12-13-3) Vs. Philadelphia Phillies (1-25-2)
The Line: Dodgers-13
These are the kinda games that Dodgers have to sweep in order to stay in contention in a loaded NL West. Rosario has the ability to take SB by himself against a Dodgers team that lacks a SB threat and if Trevor Richards pitches well again this could be the rare disaster double digit win for Jake.
St. Louis Cardinals (25-1-2) Vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (15-12-1)
The Line: Cardinals -0.5
Nolan Arenado is gonna be out 3 games and Josh Harrison is going to be out for the entire series, combined with the fact that Ozzie Albies and Bryce Harper enter this week red-hot and this could be a big week for the Cardinals to stay on top of the NL Central.
San Francisco Giants (13-13-2) Vs. Texas Rangers (12-13-3)
The Line: Giants -4.5
The Rangers lineup hasn't shown up yet this year and with his strength being his strong bullpen, but Pauls being better this is just a really rough matchup for Bill.
AL SCORES:
