TJ surgeries are taking out more players than ever. I feel like a seasonal DL could help alleviate some of these issues where you can't use a player an entire year but they're taking up a roster spot. The idea here is that the seasonal DL would be a place to stash badly injured players for the entire season. Once you place them on the seasonal DL, they cannot come off until the changeover. Players also must have been placed on the seasonal DL prior to May 1st to be eligible.
A player should be able to be placed on the seasonal DL - which would remove them from the 40-man - as long as they satisfy all of these conditions:
A. Are actually hurt B. Was not placed on the seasonal DL the year prior
You still have to pay for them.
I'm trying to think of any loopholes that could be exploited here so let me know if you see any. Just think this could be a nice little feature.

Ideas: 1. Paying half salary of anyone on this DL? 2. Different cutoff date than 5/1? 3. Players on their first years of new contracts can't be placed on it? 4. Max number of players that can go on this?

Terrible Idea, Justin's the only team approaching a full 40 man roster, so this only benefits himself, in fact, now that there is a further incentive to compete, more teams will have full rosters and less teams will approach 40 active players.
Also the 50% salary cut justin brought up in chat would make no sense. People would be more willing to shovel out money to P's knowing that if something happens, you get a 50% cap relief, thus bigger contracts and longer contracts, enormous 5 year contracts have created problems in the past

Also, Let me give 3 rule updates/clarifications that are more important than this:
1. Can't sign a player that you released 2. Raise the Min AB's/IP so that teams can't "steal" rate stats at 40/10, (I'd suggest 80/20) 3. Stop sending players directly to minors in season, too many meaningless posts on the waiver board this year
Another thing, a lot of people don't know the rules to begin with regarding Waivers, DL, Free Agency, etc. so let's make sure people understand those before adding stupid ideas that aren't neccesary

Mets GM (Jack) Rule #1 is already on the way. We may consider #2 with the new anti-tanking rules, but that remains to be seen. We may also consider reworking the waive/revoke cycle that pops up

Season long DL seems unnecessary - now that we use a 40 man roster that's already an extra 15 bench/DL spots
