Jason Giambi?

While checking over the Padres roster that I inherited from the old ownership, it appears Jason Giambi (Col-1B) was a 2011 Free Agent signing for only 1 year.

Giambi, as best as I can determine, was not signed for the 2012 season.

Can anybody shed any light on how Giambi came to be on the Padres 2012 roster? What am I missing? Where can I find a source verifying that Giambi should be part of the Padres 2012 roster? If not, I prefer to drop him and his dollars.
