Hello All, When we introduced the new arbitration salaries for 2022 we wanted to try to mimic the MLB arbitration scale while adjusting it for our specific scoring categories in Fantrax. We were able to do this using the Fantrax Score which calculates a players score based on our scoring categories for our league. After adjusting and rolling out the 2022 new arbitration formula, we realized that the arbitration numbers were still lower compared to IRL numbers and players on scale were still much cheaper than what we were trying to achieve. We decided to take a final look at the arbitration formula in the offseason and adjust it to closely resemble MLB numbers and to make the league more competitive. After reviewing the arbitration formula and going over projected players salaries, we are rolling out a final adjustment to the arbitration formula for scale players 4-6. The formula is described below and we'll use this going forward. To calculate arbitration salaries for scales 4-6, we applied a top rate of $12M, $18M, and $25M respectively for each arbitration year, where the top rate is applied for those with a perfect Fantrax score of 100. The arbitration formula then scales down each top rate for lower Fantrax scores, but uses a top heavy approach - in other words, players with elite Fantrax scores (>80) are paid highly, but players with mediocre to bad Fantrax scores get very little in salary. We're planning on having the roster rolled over to 2023 in the next week or two. Here is the Google Sheet link with new arbitration numbers we'll use. You can CTRL + F to find a player on the Sheet. Thank you. ODC Team,

Why is Ohtani's salary so low? shouldnt it include his hitting and pitching? It's based off his Fantrax score, which accounts for both. Could also be low because he's UTIL only on offense.

How was the old formula too low? These arb salaries look nothing like real-life MLB because I'm assuming they were applied linearly using those top-values as maxes and scaling down proportionally? Real arb salaries are definitely not linear.

Real arb salaries have a much different overall process that arrives at those figures. We don't negotiate, there's no hearings, it is what it is. If you want to submit salaries for all the hitters, then find someone to submit the club's side, then be the arbitrator between those numbers, be my guest.

At the least we can aim to match salary distributions. It's not a difficult process and would be much more accurate.
