With the roster the way it is, the Rockies currently have no players who are capable of playing either SS or 2B. Sure there might be a surprise waiting in the minors, but you cant hang your hat on that. Rockies management is more than aware of the problem, but no one in the front office is panicking.
"We have a few holes to fill and little budget to work with at the moment. We are looking to move a few of our arms to fill these holes, but are not going to make a deal just to make a deal. Our rotation, we feel, is good enough to carry us through the season with or without a middle infield," Rockies GM Tabe stated when asked about the void in the infield.
Players up for trade have been reported to be Brandon Inge- who will likely be a Rockie for the entire 2012 season based off of his performance last year and the fact that he is owed $5.5M this year-, Carl Pavano, Joaquin Benoit, and Daniel Schlereth.

When the Diamondbacks manger Nick Smucker saw that the Rockies needed a SS he jumped on this and said to the rockies manager that he would be willing to trade his SS to them. The negotiations are still slow but they said they have been getting close to a deal.
