The Colorado Rockies and LHP CJ Wilson have agreed in principle to a 4yr. extension, through 2016, for roughly $62M. The final details have not been announced, but GM Tabe is happy the deal is nearly complete. "We are trying to compete with a specific strategy and CJ fits in right along with that [strategy]. We know a lot of other teams out there don't think he is worth this type of money, but we like him as a player and as a person. His clubhouse attitude, we feel, will bring a lot to this team."
With Halladay under control through 2014, Wilson through 2016, and an attempt to possible lock up Lincecum for 8 years, the Rockies can move a piece or two from their pitching staff. "We like our top three, and are dying to get Tim locked up. We feel now we can try and move some other pieces from our pitching staff."
Asked for specific names, GM Tabe only said this, "We are not looking to deal specific pitchers. We would have to be blown away for one of our top three." And Tyler Skaggs? "We see Tyler being with Colorado for a long time."
Some names that have been rumored earlier in the month that the Rockies might try and move have been Ted Lilly, Carl Pavano, Bruce Chen, Joaquin Benoit, and Daniel Schlereth.
