Here are my tier rankings for ODC. Power Rankings were too subjective and I found myself overthinking. Analysis with the teams inside the tiers.
The rankings inside the tiers are in no order.
Tier One:
-Tigers: Best team in the league on paper. Very deep pitching staff with star power. Has a well-rounded lineup with top base stealers in Reyes, Bourn; true power hitters in Bautista, Ortiz; and great overall hitters in Posey, CarGo, and Zimm. Bullpen is average, but something had to give to put together the lineup Alex has.
-Royals: Epitome of a dynasty. A ton of young, MLB stars that will allow the Royals to contend now and for many years to come. Stacked outfield. Only glaring flaw is a bottom five bullpen. If every young player developed as Jason hoped they'd be my World Series pick, but this team is very reliant on young players with few to no MLB experience
-Mets: Team that is sound all-around. Have stars in Votto, Wright, Felix, Cain, and Prince; with many young players on the rise such as Machado, Kipnis, Montero. One of the league's best and deepest bullpens. Outfield is solid, but could use a star to carry the load.
-White Sox: The first thing I thought of when I saw this team was that it reminds me of the Yankees and Mike's a big time Yanks fan. A team that is built almost the opposite of their AL Central counterpart, the Royals. Based on just their starters this team is stellar. My only concern is that vets are often associated with injuries, and depth is an issue with the White Sox, which could halt their success.
-Cardinals: Very solid all-around. Have a lot of very good players. Trout and Beltre are only stars. Have a lot of young guys with upside including Wilin Rosario and Anthony Rizzo. Pitching staff has a lot of risky guys, but Jake has eight of them, so if some don't pan out it won't kill him.
Tier 2:
-Angels: This team has some stars to carry the load (CC, Tulo, Tex, Kemp, Lee, Hamels). Needs a LF desperately. If they can address their LF situation I would move them to tier one. Their bullpen has a lot of guys who have closed at one point or another but none that are slated to close entering 2013.
-Rays: Forbz has a nice team that doesn't have any glaring flaws. He has a nice team, but he needs a superstar. Should battle it out with Jeff for the AL East pennant.
-Orioles: Jeff has a good, young team that should contend for the AL East pennant. Jeff should definitely seek bullpen help as its sub-par right now. Some guys that could decide Jeff's fate are: Rollins, Altuve, Cruz, Kennedy, and Griffin. Rollins and Cruz need to stay healthy for the O's. If Altuve plays like he did closer to the first half than it will definitely help Jeff out a ton. Kennedy retains to form of '11 or close to it. Griffin pitches like last year for a full season. If 3/5 of those five things happen, I like the O's to win the AL East.
-Marlins: A team that is all over the place. Kevin has some stars, injury prone guys, guys that are debuting in the bigs this year likely. Should contend for a playoff spot. He needs a SS, and unless Olt gets dealt to another team, a 3B. Beachy, Luebke, Wada are all coming off injury.
-Reds: Solid all-around team. Russi is relying on a lot of guys to repeat last year's performance. I could definitely see some guys regressing, but all in all I think he should contend for a playoff spot this year.
-Cubs: Psych's patience has finally paid off. Very deep pitching staff. His hitting is on the weaker side, though. I'd go after a top ten first baseman if I were him.
Braves: Alex has quietly made the Braves much better this year. With Phillies choosing to rebuild he is right there in contention for a WC spot this year. He may have screwed himself for 2014, but that's not what these rankings are for!
-Rangers: Right now I'd say Bill is outside the playoffs looking in. His best chance would be the division as the AL Central has seemingly already eliminated the WC spot from other teams out of the division. He has good pitching, but doesn't have that many good hitters. Pedroia is his best offensive player.
Tier Three:
-Mariners: Bryan has done a very nice job of turning a team that hurt to look at to making them decent. Only decision I don't agree with Bryan on is Greinke. I would've gone after a cheaper SP, addressed my problems at 2B, SS, and RP, but overall Bryan has done a nice job turning this team around.
Will resume later on.
