AL East:
Tampa Bay New York Baltimore Boston Toronto
The East is a true three-team race, with Tampa Bay again as the early favorite. A team with lots of young starpower should be successful again this season. New York will have to make good use of its depth to take the AL East title. Baltimore has a decent all-around team but lineup is too top-heavy. Don't expect Boston or Toronto to compete.
AL Central:
Detroit Kansas City (WC1) Chicago (WC2) Minnesota Cleveland
Toughest of ODC's divisions, with three top teams fighting for a first-round bye. Detroit and Kansas City have stars at virtually every position. Where Chicago lacks in top players in the rotation, it makes up for it with an exceedingly deep rotation and bullpen of veterans. Expect both wild cards to come out of the Central. The Twins have added ace Price to a mix of impressive young players, but are a few steps behind in the division. The Indians quietly signed some free agents over the winter and will still run out a squad that should manage about a .500 record.
AL West:
Los Angeles Texas Seattle Oakland
The Angels and Rangers lead a deep division with four solid teams. Los Angeles and Texas are complete opposites, the former with a team full of stars and the latter with a squad of able contributors. Seattle has again become relevant, but does not have enough steady players to compete on a week-by-week basis. Oakland has mediocrity in the lineup and a below-average staff, rounding out the division.
