Offseason Schedule

Hey everyone, here's a general schedule showing how the offseason is gonna roll out...

COMPLETED Friday, 11/1 - Everyone must have updated all of their ProBoards threads fully updated for 2014. Bill should have the master roster finished a week or so before this, so no excuses.

COMPLETED Saturday, 11/2 - First round of the Rule V draft begins.

COMPLETED Friday, 11/15 to Sunday, 11/17 - Annual rules brush-up. We will go through the league rules and make sure that they are all up to date. People can also bring forward any changes that they'd like to see at this time.

COMPLETED Sunday, 12/1 - Deadline for picking up contracts/options. No changes will be permitted after this date.

COMPLETED Monday, 12/2 to Friday, 12/6 - Winter Meetings. We'd like to set up a couple of different times throughout the week where the majority of the league can be online. This is also the first time that you'll be allowed to trade your Rule V players. In-depth pre-FA team reviews will be published.

COMPLETED Saturday, 12/7 - Free agency will open for hitters.

COMPLETED Monday, 12/23 to Friday 1/3 - Holiday break. Teams will not be required to check in to the league during this time.

COMPLETED Saturday, 1/4 - Free agency will open for pitchers.

IN PROGRESS Saturday, 1/18 - Second round of the Rule V draft begins.

ON DECK Saturday, 2/1 to Friday 2/7 - Lump sum bidding will be opened for any remaining unowned prospects. New nominations will not be allowed after the 7th, but if any players are still open they may continue to be bid on.

Saturday, 2/8 - International free agency will open.

Saturday, 3/1 - ESPN leagues will be set up for the 2014 season.

A rule 5 draft and lump sum bidding on specs?

Overkill a bit for me. And I have like 70 specs

I really didn't approve of the lump sum bidding on prospects along with a 2 round rule 5 draft, particularly if we're going to be doing the rule 5 draft annually, this was also enacted when there was a ban on trading rule 5 picks, but following the end of the 1st round, mike and alex decided to bring back trading on the picks so now I see absolutely no reason for lump sum bidding.

Sanders to answer you inquiry, Lump sum bidding on prospects for the rule 5 and the 2nd IFA period have no connection with each other,You can do 1 without the other and vice versa. The guys from this 2nd IFA period wouldn't even be eligible for the rule 5 until the following one, and most likely would be dealt with in waivers before they reached the rule 5 anyways, so I fail to see why you bring up the point of asking why we are doing the bidding before the IFA.

The thing about switching IFA and lump sum bidding is that I want to see how much money I have left over after IFA before I use it on remaining prospects.

Your going to have just to budget it based on what you do with IFA,

these prospects aren't going to be all that special to begin with so I doubt your going to base your decisions off what you do there. Your going to decide what to do with IFA and budget the lump sum bidding accordingly. Since the lump sum bidding comes first, your going to have to decide how much you reasonably need to save to be able to sign whoever you had in mind.


We can't switch the schedule around just because you or other owners want to have an easier time deciding how to budget their spending allotments.

PLEASE post your 40-man rosters by next Sunday, March 16th. Notify me or Bill once it's posted so that we have enough time to make the transition. Do it as quickly as possible and avoid waiting until the last few days if at all possible.

Also, have your 25-man roster updated on ESPN by Wednesday, March 19th. Opening Day is March 22nd, and after that, all call-up/send-down and other transactions will be considered in-season.
