2014 Power rankings/ Division Rankings
NL WEST
1. ARZ- Last year was #3 team in ALC now is #1 team in ALW and for purpose of these rankings #1. Strong lineup, strong rotation and chips to deal in the farm.- OVERALL #2
2. COL- Fought hard to get out of debt and landed smack on top of the NLW standings in 2013. Will have a tougher time in 2014 but just needs a WC to go dancing in September and I feel that’s attainable.- OVERALL # 8
3 LAD- We’re in the hunt the last 2 years but I feel they have slipped back some and with ARZ coming over their odds decrease. I won’t count them out entirely with AGON trade and Granderson, Cruz and Kazmir signings but team needs more work if they hope to sniff postseason ball.- OVERALL #19
4. SD- This ship is still lost at sea but has some supplies to survive.OVERALL #24
5. SF- Matt Kemp! OVERALL #25
NL CENTRAL
1. CHC- Cub Corp wakes up and pisses excellence it’s as simple as that. They are the team everyone strives to be. Top notch sp, top notch hitting, top notch farm. Bow to Cub Corp’s greatness!- OVERALL #1
2. STL- The 2013 champions have taken a step back but shouldn’t be down for long A core of Rizzo Rosario Machado and Trout will keep the competitive and with some creativeness could still be competitive and snag a WC. OVERALL #10
3. PIT- Pirates have been rebuilding for….ever and 2014 it seems it will likely pay off with at least a competitive season and possibly a post season birth. Darkhorse candidate to win the NLC sky is the limit. OVERALL #12
4. CIN- Rich’s Reds have improved a tad over past teams but still not ready to dance in the post season. OVERALL #20
5. HOU- The Jekyll and Hyde team of ODC are the rebuilding? Are they starting a shuffleboard team? It’s never a easy answer thus their placement here. OVERALL #21
6. MIL- It was finally tore down but is staring up at giants. The picks they have in 2014 and 2015 will help but It could be a very long road. The brew crew could take a shorter route to being competitive but regardless it will be a bumpy ride. OVERALL #26
NL EAST
1. NYM- Added Tulo lost Fielder and made some other moves has a very good offense and has a deep rotation. Will be a threat to win it all but has to make playoffs first in a very talented NL East. OVERALL #4
2. MIA- Maybe the best offense in ODC the “Fish” have come a long way in a year after unloading Braun and J UP. Their SP leaves a little to be desired but the sum may be greater than the individual parts. Should be in the race for the division and a WC. OVERALL #7
3. WAS- Has Miggy and a very good rotation and some supporting cast for Cabrera could rank higher but don’t feel the lineup and sp is strong enough to warrant a higher spot right now. OVERALL #11
4. PHI- Had a big chunk of cash to spend and spent the majority of it on an ace by the name of Kershaw, Clayton Kershaw. This may not be Oren’s year but they have a nice core and could make some noise this year with more moves. OVERALL #16
5. ATL- This team has seen a long nuclear winter but with Wood in charge things aren’t as bleak as before. Some solid rule v picks combined with a draft pick stockpile the next two years including a staggering 48 picks in 2015 draft it appears the ATL has a future worth looking forward to. OVERALL #27
AL WEST
1. OAK- They may OR may not of run to the AL to escape Cub Corp oppression but their squad is very solid and should take home the AL West crown in 2014. OVERALL #6
2. TEX- Should be competitive again in 2014 but lack of SP really hurts their chances at the division in 2014. They have work to do. OVERALL #18
3. LAA- Got out of debt but in the process tore down what was a competitive team. Wont rule them out entirely but not sure they have enough to make any sort of a run. OVERALL #23
4. SEA- They are building a semi decent farm question is what does this team do next? Hopefully its not buy a dead parrot with it’s head taped on. OVERALL #29
AL CENTRAL
1. CHW- One of the most consistent franchises in ODC, they are poised to make another run in 2014. Strong SP and a Solid offense should carry them along way BUT will it be enough to make it to the WS finally? They have become Atlanta Braves like but the Braves occasionally made the WS and won it. Is this the year for the #2 team in Chicago? OVERALL #3
2. CLE- The tribe went on a splurge in Free Agency this off-season inking Cano and Scherzer. (did anyone else realize this?) They also added 3B Evan Longoria combined with last off-seasons smart signings they have a pretty solid team. I think in order for them to take the next step they will need to fortify the rotation, improve the bullpen and upgrade a spot or 2 in the lineup but regardless they will be in the thick of things in the AL in 2014. OVERALL #5
3. DET- The tigers took their normal route to their off-season and traded everything not nailed down. Offense is still strong and SP may be stronger than before. Could be 2 could be 1 if things fall right but for now #3 in the AL’s best division. OVERALL #9
4. MIN- The Tom Hanks of ODC has made some head scratching moves but he has a plan it seems. Soon as he owns every sp nobody can win sp I kid, I kid. Don’t think Twinkies climb out of the basement yet but they make it up a stair or two. OVERALL #17
5. KC- The Royal’s were a surprise player in the Free Agency frenzy signing CF Ellsbury and SP Masterson. Royals aren’t contenders yet but I view them as a team to watch out for in the future as they boost a very strong under the radar farm. OVERALL #22
AL EAST
1. BAL- Is this FINALLY the year? The O’s have had a blood feud with division rival TB for years and with TB losing key members of last years AL Championship squad can the O’s finally break through and take the division crown? This is as good as year as any since TB is down and BOS just starting to walk. OVERALL #13
2. BOS- Uh…OH the Red Sox are about to take flight! After taking over for the infamous BOB in mid 2012 James has made a conscious effort to build towards the future and in the process he has amassed a very impressive pile of prospects. 2014 promises to see many of those prospects join Jose Fernandez on the big league team and coupled with veterans Greinke and Gordon the BoSox could challenge for the a WC spot and even the AL East. OVERALL #14
3. TB- All good things must come to an end….right? TB had a VERY good run culminating in a ODC World Series birth in 2013 but they fell just short of taking home the title. After losing Cano and Scherzer to Free Agency and shipping out a few other veteran assets the run is seemingly over. I won’t completely rule them out but not looking likely that another banner goes up for the Rays in 2014. OVERALL #15
4. NYY- They make people who have jump from the top of sky scrapers look good. The Bronx bombers have fallen on hard times since the magical season of 2012 only thing to do now is get up and start climbing again. OVERALL #28
5. TOR- The Blue Jays fans have suffered for years….2014 they will continue to suffer. The farm IS improving but has cost themselves a pretty penny to acquire. 2016? could bring a glimmer of hope to the long suffering BJ fans. Who doesn’t like BJ’s? OVERALL #30
