With the season just around the corner and teams apparently set heading into the season, i feel now is a good time for season predictions.
AL East
1 BAL- The King is dead and the future King isn't quite ready to take the throne or is he? For now I predict BAL to take the AL East.
2 BOS- With TB kingdom finally collapsing Boston slides into the On deck circle as next power team in AL East...next year. Could be in the running for WC or Division if BAL stumbles.
3 TB- They aren't top dog anymore and even while rebuilding wont hit bottom in this division.
4 NYY- With a absentee owner they may not be bad enough to finish last.
5 TOR- Bad team + Motivation = Last place
AL Central
1 CHW- The one AL Dynasty still intact, CHW should be playoff bound once more. Before there last trade i thought they were the most balanced team not im not so sure. The bats will carry them to the playoffs again. SP will decide what seed they are.
2 CLE- Picked up Longo and Scherzer could be 1 could be 3 in the ALC wherever they finish I expect a playoff birth.
3 DET- Made a ton of moves during the offseason made Cleveland better in the process. Could just as easy be #1 or #2 here and i consider them front runner for last WC spot.
4 MIN-They have enough SP to outlast a zombia apocalypse but not the bloodbath that is the AL Central. Improved but not yet ready to play with the big boys. Very outside shot at a WC.
5 KC- A sleeping giant that's going to nap through most of 2014.
AL West
1. OAK- Most talented team by far in the West GM should be fired if they don't win.
2. Tex- Will give most teams trouble with their bats but SP will really cost Tex this season. IF they can find some arms i give them a outside shot at a WC.
3. LAA- They have a few nice players BUT it's not enough.
4. SEA- Would be playing for ping pong balls if this were the NBA.
NL East
1. NYM- This was a lot easier before Medlen went down and Niese injury. Bats will need to carry them to where they want to go. Anywhere from 1-3 is a likely finish for the Mets.
2. MIA- This was a lot easier before J.Parker wend down....broken record. Bats will need to carry them to where they want to go. Yep a broken record. Anywhere for 1-2 is a likely finish for the Marlins...broken record.
3. WAS- Nats are led by Miguel Cabrera and some nice supporting players on offense. SP is their strength if the bats are good enough they could surprise and take the division.
4. PHI- Phillies signed Kershaw and have a very good bullpen and some nice pieces on offense. Just don't think it's enough this year.
5. ATL- Nowhere to go but up for the ATL but their owner is very crafty i expect them to give some teams trouble by the end of the season.
NL Central
1. CHC- No weaknesses + depth + tradable assets = playoffs
2. STL- Defending champs have a few building blocks BUT seem to be content with their current team which could slide down to #3 in the NLC pecking order if they aren't careful.
3. PIT- They are young but loaded with potential plus have some veterans that will help them this season. I am not sleeping on this team could shock the world and make the playoffs.
4. HOU- Have a nice core on offense but rest of the team is really thin.
5. CIN- Anyone know who sings "Stuck in the middle with you" that song is about this team.
6. MIL- Still in the demolition phase of this rebuild has potential for a nice future but for 2014 they are still a pile of ruble.
NL West
1. ARZ- Early favorites to walk away with NL West, NL and ODC championships.
2. COL- The very under the radar Rockies should make another playoff appearance but will have to make it through the D'backs if it wants another division title.
3. LAD- Will give some teams trouble this year but don't expect them to make a serious playoff run
4. SD- The Padres....that's all I need to say.
5. SF- Could just as easy be #4 but that's not saying much.
