The 2014 version of the Toronto Blue Jays Major League team is more of the same: the team is far from contention on the surface. However, Sanders has built up the Blue Jays' farm as one of the strongest in the American League. For the first time, Toronto fans have reason for optimism. I sat down with the Jays GM to discuss the present and future state of the team.
You've given the Blue Jays a major makeover. How do you go about rebuilding?
Im rebuilding by looking for guys who are young for their level and who are performing well at any level. Some of the young latino prospects go overlooked so ive been gathering them and hope i grabbed the right guys that pan out. Marcell Ozuna and Juan Lagares are both having breakout-ish years too which somewhat helps my MLB team.
Which of your prospects are you most excited about for next year and beyond? Any star prospects coming up soon?
Im hoping a few of my prospects make it to the bigs next year or even this year like Maikel Franco, Arismendy Alcantara, and Haj-Ju Lee. I have one of the youngest top farms in the league so ill have a little while before I get excited about the rest of the guys coming up.
How do you plan on using cap space in 2015 and the future?
Cap space? What cap space? I will probably send some 2016 cash in the offseason for picks though and maybe sign a few transition guys.
Obviously, the Blue Jays won't be going anywhere this year, but your team is on the rise. How long do you think it takes until you're back in contention?
Id like to be in contention for a wild card in 2016 and then try for the division in 2017. Im excited about some of my spects that are a little farther off like Albert Almora, Marco Gonzales, Sean Manaea, Josh Hader, and Tyler Marlette. Im also excited to welcome new draftee Kodi Medeiros into the system and for last years top IFA's to begin their summer leagues like Micker Zapata and Eloy Jimenez.
What are your general plans moving forward?
My general plans moving forward are just to gather whatever pieces I think will help the organization.
If you had to unconditionally waive one of your star Major League players, who would it be?
Juan Lagares, I personally dont like keeping players on my fantasy team who are are the IRL team that i root for.
What's your favorite TV show and why?
Definetely South Park. Cause of the Jewish humor of course.
Better name: Yeralf Torres or Fernery Ozuna?
Fernery Ozuna hands down

Any final thoughts?
Lets Go Rangers
Thanks again to Sanders for joining me and giving us a front-row look at the Toronto Blue Jays.
